Senator Jonathan Dismang Announces Resignation from Arkansas State Senate

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Senator Jonathan Dismang announced today that he will resign from the Arkansas State Senate effective September 15, 2026, concluding nearly two decades of service in the Arkansas General Assembly.

Dismang will be taking a position with the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas. The organization will release additional information regarding his new role separately.

“After much thought, I’ve decided it’s time for me to step away from the Arkansas State Senate,” Dismang said. “Serving the people of Arkansas has been an opportunity very few people ever get, and I’m grateful for the trust they placed in me.”

Dismang began his legislative service in the Arkansas House of Representatives in 2009 and was elected to the Arkansas Senate in 2010. During his time in the legislature, he served with three governors and represented three different Senate districts as district boundaries changed through redistricting.

His legislative work included major issues involving healthcare, tax policy, education, food insecurity, the state budget, economic development and energy. Dismang also served in Senate leadership, including two terms as the chamber’s leader as President Pro Tempore, and played a significant role in the state’s budget and fiscal policy.

“I’ve tried to focus on issues of consequence—work that could make somebody’s life a little better or leave Arkansas better positioned for the future,” Dismang said. “I came here hoping I could make an impact, and I hope that when all is said and done, I helped move the needle a little bit for the better.”

Dismang thanked the people he represented, his legislative colleagues, legislative staff and state employees for their trust, friendship and service. He also expressed his appreciation to his wife, Mandy, and their sons for the sacrifices they made throughout his years in public office.

“I leave with a lot of friendships, plenty of memories, a few scars from some good legislative fights and an enormous amount of gratitude,” Dismang said. “Thank you for giving me the chance.”
